Carol's Continued Education
Sonya Mandel volunteered as a dog walker for Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge Inc. and started her own pet sitting business, which she successfully ran for four years before moving to Oregon. Sonya is certified in Dog and Cat First Aid and is now studying to become a certified Pet Care Technician.
Carol and Sonya merged their talents and opened Opportunity Barks Dog Training, Daycare and Boarding in Pleasant Hill, Oregon. Both Carol and Sonya trained under Mare Shey at Dancin’ Woofs Compassionate Dog Training & Daycare in Bend, Oregon. This training explored all aspects of owning and operating a dog daycare business, including understanding canine behavior and pack dynamics.
Callena True ("Cat") has been with us since before our Grand Opening, helping out every which way she can, from supervising the dogs to cleaning the boarding suites. Her previous experience working at a dog daycare in Redmond, OR made Cat a perfect fit for Opportunity Barks. Ambitious to the core, Cat is pursuing a marketing degree at Lane Community College while raising two young children. She assures us that a shelter dog will soon be joining her family.
Leah Sikora, whose dog, Sukie, attends daycare every week, is helping us out this summer before she returns to Barnard College in New York City where she majors in English. Born and raised in Oregon, Leah loves outdoor sports, including hiking, biking and swimming. She also enjoys reading, writing, music, training Sukie and working as an assistant server at King Estate Winery.
